Meeting the Moment: LAS Responds to an Unprecedented Year

About the Event:
Join fellow College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (LAS) alumni to hear about the many ways the LAS Community has responded to the events of the past year. Dean Guillermo Vásquez de Velasco will welcome attendees and share updates on the state of the college, new initiatives and recent accomplishments. Following the Dean’s remarks, alumni will hear from a panel of LAS community members, including: 

Dr. Maria Ferrera, Department of Social Work and co-Director, Center for Community Health Equity (CCHE). Dr. Ferrera will present on CCHE’s very successful Healing Justice Dialogue Series. 


Dr. Euan Hague, Director, School of Public Service and Department of Geography. Dr. Hague will present on the COVID-19 Health Equity Dashboard project, which is currently being used by the Chicago Department of Public Health.


Alumnus Matthew Manning (LAS ’13, MA ‘18), Co-Founder of Gumbo Media, a storytelling platform and content engine that expands the narratives of Black life. Matthew also co-founded GumboFit, a black running group in Chicago. 


Madeline Falk, a student representative from the HumanitiesX Documentary Corps 

There will be time at the end of the event for questions from the audience. Attendees are also welcome to submit questions in advance of the webinar when registering for the event.
